Join the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention together with the European Respiratory Society to support WHO's call to action, highlight the evidence behind plain packaging, congratulate Member States which have implemented the measure and encourage the remaining countries to follow suit.

For World No Tobacco Day 2016, WHO and the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control are calling on countries to get ready for plain packaging for cigarettes. In addition, May 2016 is a crucial month for tobacco control in Europe. It marks the deadline to implement the EU Tobacco Products Directive as well as the introduction of plain-packaging in Ireland, the UK and France.

Keynote speakers on Plain Packaging:

With interventions from European and international specialists in Tobacco Control, the conference will address the future of plain packaging in relation to scientific evidence, youth smoking behaviour and the tobacco industry's role.

  • Mark Higgie, Australian Ambassador to the EU
  • Michèle Delaunay, Member of the French Parliament
About the European Respiratory Society

The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is an international organisation that brings together physicians, healthcare professionals, scientists and other experts working in respiratory medicine.
