ENSP-ECTC Conference is suspended until 2021
|
|
|
Due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and the disruption to travel and social gatherings into 2020, the ENSP Board has decided to suspend the 5th ENSP-ECTC Conference, that was planned for October 2020 in Paris. |
|
|
|
|
This decision was taken in close cooperation with ENSP French members, locally co-organising the Conference ( the French Alliance Against Tobacco and DNF - Les Droits des Non-Fumeurs), and based on the fact that the pandemic is highly volatile and nobody can precisely predict how the virus will continue to threaten global health in the coming months. |

When the Conference was initially postponed from June 2020 to October 2020, the ENSP Board and the Conference hosts in Paris were optimistic hoping the pandemic would be sufficiently under control by that time to go ahead with the event. In the meantime, the challenges of this unprecedented health crisis are now better understood and it has become clear that it would be unwise to further proceed with the Conference organisation. ENSP would not wish to risk in any way the health of our members and colleagues attending the event.
On behalf of ENSP Board and Secretariat we wish you to stay safe and healthy, and continue advancing tobacco control, especially during this time when smoking presents an even higher health risk for population than before. ENSP remains available for all possible support we can provide remotely, and we will be in touch as much as online tools allow us.

We would also like to use this opportunity and acknowledge the heroic work of health care professionals, researchers and everyone directly involved in the fight against COVID-19 or addressing the consequences caused by the pandemic. ENSP joins the global "Thank You!" to doctors, nurses and all medical workers! |

Abstract Submission and Publication
|
|
|
The Call for abstracts will remain open till July 31st, 2020 via ensp-ectc.org, and all accepted submissions will be published in a special issue of the ENSP Scientific Journal - Tobacco Prevention and Cessation - as originally planned, by the end of 2020. We particularly welcome the submission of new abstracts on the topic of
Tobacco / Smoking / Vaping & COVID-19.
In addition, authors will be invited to share with the ENSP Secretariat their presentation(s) in .ppt, .pdf or video format; and this collected digital content will be transformed into a resource library and made accessible for all ENSP members and partners. Hence, the Network will fully benefit from the relevance and scientific value of the 2020-proposed abstracts and the authors' work will receive its deserved recognition.
All authors will be contacted with further details after the submission deadline. In the meantime, please forward any conference-related enquiries to secretariat@ensp-ectc.org.

Tobacco Industry Interference during the COVID-19 pandemic

Recent studies suggest that smokers suffer more severely and have worse outcomes from COVID-19, highlighting that evidence-based practices to support patients to quit smoking should be a public health priority. the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP) distributed an online questionnaire among its members around Europe.Responses were received from 22 countries, 14 (63.6%) of which reported some kind of country-specific TI interference during the pandemic.
